چکیده

Background Forced oscillation technique (FOT) measures respiratory impedance by applying external pressures to the respiratory system and makes it possible to evaluate various aspect of airway physiology including small airways. MasterScreen IOS (IOS) has been widely utilized as a FOT. Recently, a new FOT, Mostgraph, has been available in Japan. Clinical experience including reference values of FOT, especially, for Japanese children, however have not been determined and correlations of the 2 FOTs , MostGraph and IOS, are not known.

Is forced oscillation technique the next respiratory function test of choice in childhood asthma

Respiratory diseases, especially asthma, are common in children. While spirometry contributes to asthma diagnosis and management in older children, it has a limited role in younger children whom are often unable to perform forced expiratory manoeuvre. The development of novel diagnostic methods which require minimal effort, such as forced oscillation technique (FOT) is, therefore, a welcome and...

The study of bronchial hyperresponsiveness in asthmatic children by forced oscillation technique.

We have studied the bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR) of children with normal controls and asthma by methacholine inhalation challenge, using a forced oscillation method. Four parameters, respiratory conductance (Grs), bronchial responsiveness (PD35Grs), bronchial sensitivity (Dmin) and reactivity (SGrs) were studied. There were three patterns of dose-response curves identified in this study,...

IL-23 Gene and Protein Expression in Childhood Asthma

Background: Asthma is the chronic inflammation of airways characterized by eosinophilic infiltration, mucus overproduction, airway hyper-responsiveness and airway remodeling. These changes are induced mostly by cytokines which are produced by T helper (Th) 2 cells. Recently, the role of interleukin-23 (IL-23) in the pathogenesis of adultallergic asthma has been studied. Objective: To explore IL...

Within-Breath Analysis of Respiratory Mechanics in Asthmatic Patients by Forced Oscillation

INTRODUCTION The within-breath analysis of respiratory mechanics by the monofrequency Forced Oscillation Technique (mFOT) is of great interest in both physiopathology studies and the diagnosis of respiratory diseases. However, there are limited data on the use of this technique in the analysis of asthma. This study evaluates within-breath mechanics of asthmatic individuals and the contribution ...

Overlap Syndrome in Respiratory Medicine: Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are highly prevalent chronic diseases in the general population. Both are characterized by similar mechanisms: airway inflammation, airway obstruction, and airway hyperresponsiveness. However, the distinction between the two obstructive diseases is not always clear. Multiple epidemiological studies demonstrate that in elderly people with o...
